On Thursday (Aug 10), Malaysia’s Ministry of Home Affairs issued a decree banning Swatch watches and accessories featuring LGBTQ+ elements. Owners and sellers of these watches face up to 3 years in jail or a fine of up to RM20,000 for violations.
The Malaysian home ministry asserts that this ban is essential to curb the promotion and normalisation of LGBTQ+ movements, a standpoint that has sparked global debate and captured international media attention, with prominent outlets like CNN and Bloomberg reporting on the matter.
