American actor George Takei officially came out of the closet in 2005 and revealed then that he was in an 18-year long relationship with Brad Altman. In 2008, George Takei and Brad Altman officially married each other in Los Angeles.
It has been 28 years since George and Brad got together and thankfully, the gay couple are still going strong, serving as one of the most inspirational gay couples in Hollywood.
2. Elton John & David Furnish
Length of relationship: 22 years
Music legend Sir Elton John began a relationship with Canadian filmmaker David Furnish in 1993. Since then, the couple have enjoyed a stable relationship becoming one of the first gay couples in England to form a civil partnership in 2005 before eventually marrying each other in 2014 when gay marriage became legal in England.
The celebrity couple have 2 sons, both born through a surrogate mother in 2010 and 2013 respectively.
3. Ellen DeGeneres & Portia de Rossi
Length of relationship: 11 years
Arguably Hollywood’s most high profile lesbian couple, television royalty Ellen DeGeneres & actress Portia de Rossi have been together since 2004. The high profile couple got married in 2008 when the same sex marriage ban was overturned in California.
Although the couple are currently being plagued by divorce rumours, it is alleged that Ellen and Portia are planning to renew their vows in a big epic TV wedding to put those tabloid rumours to rest.
4. Cynthia Nixon and Christine Marinoni
Length of relationship: 11 years
American actress Cynthia Nixon started a relationship with education activist Christine Marinoni in 2004. The couple married in 2012 and Marinoni gave birth to a son in 2011.
5. Neil Patrick Harris and David Burtka
Length of relationship: 11 years
American actor and host Neil Patrick Harris began a relationship with actor David Burtka in 2004. The gay couple finally married in Italy on September 16 2014. The couple currently have 4-year old twins born through a surrogate and seem to be really happy together judging from all of their loving family photos on Instagram!
