The Pinwheels is Singapore’s only digital content creator awards that celebrates the best online content from Singaporean content creators. This year’s edition reportedly drew 434 submissions.
Organised by Singapore’s national broadcaster, Mediacorp and supported by YouTube, The Pinwheels 2023 recently announced their nominees across 10 different categories.
In a pleasant surprise, ‘Getaway’ is nominated for the highly coveted ‘Content Of The Year’ award. Produced in 2022 by Dear Straight People, ‘Getaway’ made history as Singapore’s first gay BL web series.
Boasting an openly queer cast from Singapore and Thailand, Getaway was jointly supported by main sponsor The Siam, alongside 2eros, Ette Tea, Fabulous Me, Four Seasons Hotel Bangkok, Gayhealth.sg, Supawear, Prolific Songs and The Writer’s Room.
Comprising 5 episodes, Getaway’s first episode recently crossed 1.2 million views, making it Singapore’s most watched LGBT+ film on YouTube to date.
The winners of The Pinwheels 2023 will be determined by a panel of judges comprising Ng Mingwei (Founder of Boom Digital Media), Jenn Chia (Popular Malaysian Content Creator), Dillah Zakbah (Creative Director of BBH London), Angeline Poh (Chief Customer and Corporate Development Officer at Mediacorp) and K Rajagopal (Film Director and Screenwriter at Akanga Film Asia).
Hosted by Royce Lee and Munah Bagharib, The Pinwheels will take place on 3 March 2023. Confirmed performers include Singaporean and international acts such as Mandopop star Priscilla Abby and local singer-songwriter Joie Tan.
The Pinwheels 2023 will be available to watch on mewatch and YouTube on 10 March 2023.
