Dear Foodies,

I think we may have just discovered Singapore’s most LGBT-friendly cafe!

Hidden amidst the lush greenery of Fort Canning Park is The Fabulous Baker Boy, an all-day bakery cafe that has amassed quite the reputation for its ability to bake fabulous treats. Located just a stone’s throw away from Clarke Quay MRT station, this hidden gem was surprisingly easy to get to.

The Decor

For a cafe that prides itself on being fabulous, I must confess that I was a tad disappointed at not finding any flaming unicorns or glittering rainbows upon entering its premises. What I did find however, were numerous Pink Dot stickers pasted all over its walls which provided for a really heartwarming sight!

I did find a rainbow antler though

The Food

But of course, the thing that matters most at a cafe is the food and The Fabulous Baker Boy certainly doesn’t disappoint in this regard.

Known for its fabulous cakes, the first thing that caught my eye while browsing its wide cake selection was the DIVA series – a collection of cakes named after some of music’s greatest divas. I’m not sure if the DIVA series was a deliberate nod to LGBT culture but they certainly had my inner gay boy squealing with joy.

From Diana Ross to Mariah Carey, Celine Dion to Beyonce, you name it, they’ve baked it.

The Beyonce

Very aptly named ‘Beyonce’, this lemonade inspired cake was my personal favourite.

Stuffed with lemon emulsion and topped with a lemon frosting, this lemon flavoured treat was light on the tongue but satisfying for the soul.

The Mariah Carey

Just like the vocal talent of the woman herself, this cake was HUGE!

Made up of a brown sugar sponge with a hint of alcohol, the sweetness of this concoction was a godsend for my sweet tooth.

AB Fab Red Velvet

One of their most popular cakes, this was hailed by popular food blogger DanielFoodDiary as one of the best velvet cakes you can possibly find on the island. All I can say is… I agree!

Fab Waffles with SEXY NUTTY CRUNCH topping ($15)

More than just a bakery, they serve typical brunch fare too!

You can choose to have their waffles served with salted butter and syrup, vanilla ice cream or go for one of three sinful ice cream toppings chock full of calories. The sinner in me obviously went for the ice cream topping that sounded the most deadly – the SEXY NUTTY CRUNCH.

Comprising of oatmeal, choc chip, peanut butter and cranberry crumble scattered over vanilla ice cream, this incredibly instaworthy dish was well worth the calories.

The Verdict

Judging from how the majority of the customers on the day we dropped by were foreigners, it’s quite surprising that Singaporeans haven’t discovered this little treasure yet. So if you’re looking for a place with good food and great vibes, then this is the place for you!
