Dear LGBTQ+ People,

LGBT-friendly events are aplenty across Asia, but information on these is usually not readily available even online, meaning that a good lot of us wouldn’t even know of their existence.

With this in mind, we’ve looked around to find you a list of 10 LGBT-related events in Asia happening in February 2019. Whether you’ll remain in Singapore or are planning to travel to any of the other countries featured on this list, there is something for everyone to look forward to.

1. Aquaholic Pool Party SG

The monthly Aquaholic Pool Party SG is set to take place on the 10th in February, bringing with it the usual chill experiences on both the beach and pool deck of FOC Sentosa.

2. RuPaul’s Drag Race: Werq the World

Fans of RuPaul’s Drag Race, rejoice: RuPaul’s Drag Race World Tour: Werq the World will be making its Singapore stop in February, and it’ll be hosted by celebrity judge Michelle Visage!

Expect to see performances staged by beloved Season 10 finalists, including Asia O’Hara, Eureka O’Hara, and Kameron Michaels. Fan favourites will also take to the stage, and these will include Detox, Kim Chi, Sharon Needles, and Violet Chachki.

3. Chinese New Year-themed parties

February is the month of Chinese New Year, and you can expect to find themed parties scattered around town for the festivities. Here are our top three picks to look forward to:

a) The House Of 3 Little Pigs by Mismatch

When you’re done relishing the shenanigans of RuPaul’s Drag Race World Tour: Werq the World, make your way down to its official after-party, The House of 3 Little Pigs for the Birthgay Party of Mismatch’s founder, Bobby.

With a theme appropriately inspired by the upcoming Year of the Pig, this party will encompass the hottest tunes with DJ sets performed by DJ Shigeki, Gay Chav DJ, Kidg, and Bobby himself.

Drag performances will also be staged onsite, with Becca D’Bus, Mona Kee Kee, Farrah Shamrock, and Duo L taking the reins of the stage to wow you with their vibrant presences.

Yanxi Palace just got gayfied with Hyperise Imperial at 1-Altitude, a bizarre party that comes with an elaborate Imperial Palace roleplaying theme to celebrate CNY. This party is split into 2 “party palaces”, and are as follows:

  • Hall of Hyper Harmony: Altimate Indoor Club, featuring guest DJ Taki (HK) and Hyper resident DJ Lorri
  • Hall of Supreme Harmony: 1-Altitude Rooftop, featuring DJs Thomas Ou and Jack

Come dressed in your palace finest and deck yourself out in imperial red and gold. Look forward to performances staged by four Hunky Imperial Guards, three Divalicious Consorts, and also a Palace Mascot.

Also make your way to the Hall of Supreme Harmony at 12AM, for there will be an Empress Coronation Ceremony conducted – with swathes of homosexual guys attending the party, who could the favoured concubine be?

Well-known for the her involvement in LGBT activism, Taiwanese Mandopop Queen A-Mei will be taking to the stage for CNY as part of Resort World Sentosa’s 2019 Chinese New Year Live Showcase, and she’ll be accompanied by guest stars Anna and Eve Ai.

Expect to see A-Mei performing her signature pieces, alongside tracks from her latest album Story Thief, which was released in 2017.

5. Face of the Day SG

Fashion designer Yang Derong has put together a truly unique art exhibition called Face of the Day. Originally starting out as an art project in which he posted one photo of himself dressed in a plethora of outfits and personas, Face of the Day has now been upgraded into an entire exhibition that comes complete with augmented reality.

Though this event is not strictly LGBT-themed, the outfits donned by Yang Derong present a fluidity in gender representation, with him sportingly taking on the personas that are traditionally female – a subtle nod towards our transgender friends.

7. Sunday Gay Night at Maggie Choo’s Special Theme Chinese in Love

With CNY and Valentines Day happening so closely to each other, it’s no surprise that we have events like Sunday Gay Night at Maggie Choo’s Special Theme Chinese in Love. Taking place in Bangkok’s G-Spot Entertainment, expect a night of quality entertainment from Pangina Heals and her amazing crew, best known for being a co-host of Drag Race Thailand.

8. &Proud Yangon LGBT Film Festival 5th Edition

You might not have expected Myanmar to make this list, but make it it does with &Proud Yangon LGBT Film Festival. In its fifth iteration this year, this festival aims to celebrate the breadth and diversity of Asian Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Intersex and Queer lives through the medium of film.

All films screened will be Asian productions, with special attention given to locally produced works to let homegrown Myanmar activists and filmmakers shine.

8. theWOW x GCircuit SONGKRAN 2019 Warm Up Party

The much-awaited Songkran Festival is still miles off, but there’s no real need to worry with theWOW and GCircuit coming together to bring you SONGKRAN 2019 Warm Up Party for CNY in Taiwan.

“Hot Dancers” will grace the stage for this event, numbering five in total. All tickets come with a complimentary drink voucher, and if you come dressed in red, you can pick up another on the house!
