Dear Straight People,

On 22 April, 31-year old Muhammad Hanif Mohamed Huzairi was jailed for 7 months for inciting violence against the judge who dismissed S377A challenges.

Section 377A of the Singapore Penal Code criminalises consenting sex between male adults.

Although the government has assured that they will not actively enforce Section 377A, its ramifications on society are widespread. By legally framing same-sex attraction as ‘immoral’ and criminal, Section 377A propagates stigma and prejudice against the LGBTQ+ community in Singapore.

Upset at the dismissal of the challenges against S377A by Justice See Kee Oon, Hanif posted two IG stories on his personal IG condemning the judge and legal system.

The first IG story said, “To the deadass boomer of a judge who dismissed the challenges against S377A, you better f****** watch out!!”

At the time of his post, Hanif reportedly had 267 followers.

A few hours later, Hanif commented on Pink Dot’s IG post stating, “Time to hunt down the oppressive judges, who basically maintained the legalisation of discrimination against us, and make them pay the ultimate price.”

A police report was lodged against him on the same day.
