Dear Straight People,

Korean BL web drama ‘Wish You’, aka ‘Wish You: Your Melody is in My Heart’, will officially be joining Netflix’s growing roster on 15 January 2021.

Starring idols Kang In Soo and Lee Sang, the film centers around a singer-songwriter played by Kang and a keyboardist working in a record company played by Lee. When Lee’s character stumbles upon Kang’s music videos, he convinces the latter to join his record company. Sparks fly when the two protagonists start living and working together in the company residence.

Produced in 2020, the 8 episode Korean web drama will be available on Netflix as a full length movie.

Although South Korea only produced its first BL drama ‘Where Your Eyes Linger’ last year, the growing popularity of the BL genre have led to other Korean BL productions such as Mr Heart and Colour Rush.

The addition of ‘Wish You’ to Netflix’s roster will likely serve as an added incentive for production houses to continue to ride on the BL wave. The success of Asian BL productions will hopefully lead to greater acceptance of the LGBTQ+ community throughout Asia.
